New kitchen at the memorial hall

The final touches are now being made to the kitchen renovation that have been worked on over the last few months at the memorial hall. This will enable us to run cookery courses and to provide lunches to the community for certain events which will be announced officially. All the worktops have been either replaced or revamped, lighting has been improved, walls freshly tiled, window frames renovated and the electrics brought up to scratch – and for the first time in years we now have hot water in the kitchen. A fresh coat of paint has been applied and new lighting installed. Included is also a new multi-ring dual fuel cooker and a new upright fridge-freezer.

Huge thanks to Keith Newman who has put in 100s of hours of his spare time to make this happen ably assisted by Terry and the rest of the crew.

Recreation Ground re-opening

The car park will be re-opened on February 27th 2023 to the community although not all the works have been completed. LED downlighter lights will be fitted shortly and we will be adding in some extra materials to extend the car park towards the football pitch area to increase it’s capacity further. A car parking system to control overnight parking will be installed soon, permits can be purchased for local residents and business’ to continue to use the car park for overnight parking all year round and to help continue to fund the activities for the community on the rec and at the memorial hall.

Thanks to Jim Matthews and his crew and too the committee members led by our chairman for the organisation and labour involved in carrying out the work.

Sharon, Terry, Graham and Roy finishing up yesterday afternoon on the rec.

Lydbrook Band Centenary Concert on the recreation ground

As part of a series of concerts to celebrate their 100th anniversary both the Lydbrook Training band and main Lydbrook band will be performing on the Lydbrook Recreation ground on the afternoon of June 18th. Bring your own picnic chairs and picnics if you want and join us in celebrating our national famous band.

Memorial Hall works

Starting on Monday January 9th scaffolding should be going up at the front of the Hall as work stars on re-pointing and sealing the stone around the bay window which leaks badly during this inclement weather. Hopefully this will fix what has been an onging issue for several years. This will not have any impact on Hall users while the work is in progress.

Recreation ground car park

The car park remains closed for the time being. The committee has now signed off on costs and is just sorting out payment conditions with Hales and then they will be delivering 20 tons of stone “scalpings” which will be used to resurface the carpark area. This could have happened sooner but a combination of the holiday period and the deliberate blocking of the gate after it was locked on December 18th has delayed our schedule more than anticipated. We have the rental of an excavator and compactor arranged for January and of course we will get the work done as soon as we can.

We are aware that this is causing some disruption around the school but this is unavoidable as we carry out importance maintenance to this communal facility so please bear with us.

Main Hall heating

At last we have been able to get to the bottom of why the main heating system did not always switch on. Users will notice the new thermostat in the Hall and it’s simple operation of pressing the ON button. The system is set to 18C for all users. When you have finished using the hall you just press the OFF button on the thermostat and your done.

Even if we say so ourselves, and we do, Lydbrook Memorial Hall is probably the warmest, largest village communal space in the forest.
